Beginning Piano Music that Appeals to Boys, Teens, and Even Adults!
A search for music written to appeal to young boys and guys in their teens landed me on the website, www.TeachPianoToday.com. Andrea and Trevor Dow, a couple with a substantial studio in Canada, have such wonderful ideas for students of all ages. I ordered their piano/comic book series, The Adventures of Fearless Fortissimo, Piano Books for Boys, Read the Comic, Play the Music. I loved it so much, I immediately purchased My Piano Teacher Thinks She's a Ninja. As soon as I played through the music, I realized its appeal to boys and girls and even to teens and adults! This is not the music I was forced to endure as a beginning piano student but instead provides beginning pianists with music they love to learn to play and share with others.
Within a few short months, beginners are learning music that sounds much more advanced - with rich and diverse chords they enjoy hearing. When students enjoy their piano assignments, they are much more motivated to practice. After my initial introduction to their piano compositions for students, I enrolled in their Piano Book Club, a program where new music comes to my inbox at the same time each month. I pay a monthly fee and have the rights to reprint it for my students... a huge savings for parents and students and a big time saver for me as a teacher. It is important for students to learn to play Mozart and Chopin but there is a lot to be learned from studying music of many different genres.
Andrea and Trevor Dow truly have their hands on the pulse of todays' piano students of any age. Whether I'm teaching a child who needs additional reinforcement with learning to read notes, Nuts About Note Reading featuring Sheldon T. Squirrel or a teen who is needing something sounding more contemporary,The Silver Screen Playbook, Epic Music Starring Octaves, or something that appeals to an adult beginner, the Dows have it all. Everything I've purchased or been given as a free download from their website has been not only beneficial but needed..... I recently purchased a membership in their Piano Game Club and now have age appropriate games that reinforce learning coming to my inbox every month.
