When Jan started teaching my grand-niece Aline piano last year, I was delighted! I knew Jan was an enthusiastic, encouraging, accomplished musician who loves children and loves teaching. But I had no idea of Jan's level of dedication when Aline returned to the African bush where there was no one to teach her. Jan e-mails instructional videos to Aline, and Aline e-mails her performance videos to Jan. I get copies of both of their videos, which enable me to follow Aline's progress, and Aline has blossomed and obviously loves it! She is already picking out songs and transposing them, with Jan's guidance and encouragement. And even though I have been playing since I was age 5, I am learning things through Jan's videos to Aline! I highly recommend Jan for anyone interested in learning piano the right way.
An Aunt who loves music and her great niece....
I am a homeschool parent and Jan teaches three of my six boys piano and she is wonderful. She loves teaching and she loves children.
She teaches students both how to play by ear AND how to play classically (by reading music). I find this to be a huge benefit as most teachers I know teach either playing by ear or by reading music. Mrs. Gray is the only teacher I personally know that teaches children both ways of playing from the beginning. She also has lesson videos on her website available for her students to view when they are at home during the week to reinforce what they learned in their weekly lessons. This is very helpful for a forgetful child.

From an adult student:
As a kid,I took piano lessons for years. And although all the adults kept telling me how glad I would be one day that I had done so, I didn't believe them. I hated it. Therefore, I didn't learn nearly as much as I could and should have. But alas, the adults were right, and I've now spent the past 20 years as an adult trying to fill in all the holes I have in piano theory and applications, especially topics like adding chords to songs in order to make them sound fuller and richer.
I met Jan in our Sunday School class, and when I learned that she taught piano, I jumped at the chance to finally fill in those holes... and it has worked out great. Jan perfectly understood what I wanted to learn and how to go about teaching me. And she has been very patient with me when my job sent me on business trips that conflicted with our lessons.
And as an aside, I've discovered that Jan teaches her new, younger students in ways that I wish I had experienced when I was just starting out years ago. She encourages creativity and works-in basic understanding that is ideal for young students to enjoy piano and music in general as soon as possible.

Jan is an exceptional teacher of the piano and of music. She presents a well rounded course of study with the goal of a solid foundation as well as developing a life long love of music.
Jan has a dedication to her students, looking after their best interests, educating herself to meet individual needs, and researching and offering opportunities for her students whether it be the opportunity to purchase a good piano, a better course of study material, and even developing materials herself for her students.
Jan's personal character is unsurpassed. I can not say enough about this. She has great integrity. I am never hesitant about referring students of all ages to study music with Jan ... whether beginners or advanced.

Aline sang BREATHE and accompanied herself on the piano during the main worship service at church today and she didn't make one single mistake and she sang beautifully. Everyone was amazed at how well she sang and played!
Just wanted to share. =)

"She is not a teacher because she is too much fun."

Just wanted to say thank you for treating my daughter special. She is gaining more and more confidence and we are enjoying the music that she is playing. My daughter has made so much progress and she has even started to sing. Janice is a talented musician and is dedicated about sharing her talents with her students. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to learn music and the techniques of playing the piano.
Sincerely,
Venus
